Facility Expansion Grows Closer
As a part of DSV's Project Dark 2 Light, DaySpring Villa is on track to begin expansion of its shelter to accommodate the growing number of human sex trafficking survivors seeking asylum.
"We finally received our building permit from the city and have hired Keith Construction to oversee the expansion," says Wilma Lively, executive director of DSV.
The first phase of construction will begin with the build of an underground tornado shelter for guests and staff. Phase two will expand the shelter with an additional 3,360 square feet of space and renovation of the facility's east wing to include more guest rooms, bathrooms, and offices.
The decision by DaySpring Villa's Board to add the tornado shelter came after the devastating F-5 tornado ripped through Oklahoma in 2013 killing 24. The cost to build an underground shelter before expanding the facility exceeded the original Project Dark 2 Light fundraising campaign by $272,000. To date, the shelter has received $206,853 of the additional cost.
